- Practice Mock Tests: One sure fire way to solve MCQ Questions quickly and accurately is to practice as many mock tests as possible. There are sample papers and mock tests available in market and online which have a vast collection of MCQ questions in all three sections. Solving these questions will help in getting an idea of the type of questions asked, the type of questions which gets repeated and the type of questions which are easy and quick to solve.
- Practice shortcut tricks: Youtube is full of videos of shortcut tricks for solving Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation, and Logical Reasoning questions. There are numerous books available too which elucidate these concepts. Mastering these tricks will help solve the MCQ type questions quickly and accurately. Often, there are questions which are directly based on these tricks and those with a knowledge of such tricks can find it easy to solve such questions.
- Use method of elimination: Method of elimination is eliminating the options which are less likely to be correct. It is a method used by many top rankers and is again a method which helps in increasing the speed of solving questions. In this method, all such options which are entirely out of chance are eliminated and the correct answer is chosen from the options left. This is a method based on probability and is used when a candidate is not too sure of their answer. This method can be mastered with constant practice. For example: for the question 625X22= a)13750 b)13782 c)15342 d)12564 options “b”, “c” and “d” can be eliminated since the any number ending with 5 when multiplied with any other number can never have a product ending with 2 or 4. So the only option left is “a” which also happens to be the correct answer.
- Selecting the right questions: CAT 2018 is a three hour long exam, in which time a candidate has to answer a total of 100 questions. The time may seem enough, however, CAT is not an easy exam and hence, candidates often find themselves at loggerheads with questions which eat up most of their time in solving. Candidates appearing for CAT 2018 should know which questions to attempt first, which later and which ones to abandon altogether. The selection committee doesn’t expect the candidates to solve all 100 questions. So a candidate needs to select the questions they are going to answer smartly. In the test paper there might be some questions which will take up your time, so instead of wasting time after such questions, a candidate should move on and solve questions which would take lesser time to solve.
